A coop tour? Can I have chickens in Austin?
Yes, City of Austin's Ordinances allow chickens in the city. Currently this includes hens and roosters. We have the summarized key information here. The full regulations are listed under Animal Regulations in Title 3 of the Austin Ordinances. Keep in mind you should also check on any other local/property restrictions, such as those from your neighborhood's Homeowner's Association, if one exists.
What kinds of coops will be on the tour? Does a coop have to be "funky" to be on the tour?
The coop doesn't have to be "funky" to be on the tour. We're aiming for a wide range of all kinds of coops. We want to show diversity... be it the inexpensive shanty's to the elaborate palace's. The more variety the better!
All coops will be within the Austin City Limits.
This sounds fun. How does it work? We get the map and find the places on our own schedule?
This is a self-guided tour, so come to each location at your leisure as long as it's within the time limit (10 a.m. -4:00 p.m.).
How much are tickets?
The map with descriptions and locations for each coop serves as the "ticket" for the tour. Each map is $10 and can be shared with as many people as you would like in your touring party.
Where do I get tickets/a map?
You can
purchase tickets on tour day at The Information Center or pre-order them online for pickup on tour day at the Information Center. They may also be available in advance at other locations. Stay tuned for details.
Do I have to visit the coops in a particular order? No, you do not have to visit the coops in any particular order. All the coops on the coop tour will be open for visitors between 10 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on the tour day.
Will the tour be rescheduled if it rains? No, the tour will go on rain or shine.
Will there be any coops that are not listed on the map that will be on the tour? No, only the coops listed on the tour map will be on the tour. There will be, however, an
Information Center as an additional stop.
I've heard there will be an Information Center on tour day? What is that? The Information Center will be a place for Tour visitors to get more information on coops, raising backyard poultry, and other information about sustainable living. It will also be selling the Tour tickets. It will be set up on the tour day at Buck Moore Feed and Supply.
What is your raffle about? Will all my wildest chicken dreams come true?
The

grand prize, so maybe your wildest chicken dreams will come true!
