Should I do exhibition in Abilene? Coop Snooping in Oak Cliff? or Pot Luck and Chicken Feed Talk at Sunshine Community Gardens?
So many good choices tomorrow! I don't have any birds ready to show, and its a shame, because Abilene is another small show, and great for newcomers and breeders alike to vie for those awards. When you take your bird to a small show, and suddenly find out that it can compete with what you've always assumed were the best birds in the region, things suddenly get exciting! There was a REASON you thought your chicken was so beautiful and perfect... it IS! It is quite possible to have extremely good taste in chickens and not even know you own backyard poultry that fits the Standard of Perfection. Yes, perfection! Ahh, but there's plenty of time for more talk about poultry shows.
I haven't been to Dallas in ages, and Oak Cliff is Dallas! Old Dallas. 1886 Dallas. And Saturday, not only could I SNOOP around Oak Cliff and see 8 Coops throughout the neighborhoods, I could do it on a BIKE. The Coop Snoop tour is part of the Bike Friendly Oak Cliff Cyclosomatic 2011 Bike Tour, with biking events all through the month of October. Now how green is that? I love it! Chicken fans on bikes!
And then there is the Eat-up Meet-up, the annual Fall Member Potluck, of the Austin Backyard Poultry Meetup Group, with Chicken Feed being the talk of the day. Cameron Molberg, assistant general manager of Coyote Creek Farm, will be the guest speaker. "Coyote Creek Organic Feed Mill is the first commercial organic feed mill in the state of Texas....dedicated to sustainable, organic farming, and ranching practices, coupled with the humane treatment of all farm animals." That's a beautiful thing, and right here in central Texas! It will be a real pleasure to hear him speak on the topic of feed. And the icing on the cake will be that there will likely be some dessert, if not cake, and good food and good chicken people in the middle of many gardens deep in the heart of Austin. I just made up my mind! I'm going to potluck!
